Wellness Liaison Spotlight

Cynthia Marotta
Senior Project Manager, MIT

What wellness activities are you involved in and what motivated you to get started?
Dr. Camacho's meditations are on the top of my list. I also really enjoy anything food or cooking related. My biggest motivation to get healthy was during Covid when my job was moved to remote and I no longer had my 1 hour commute (each way). I made a promise to myself that I could no longer say I did not have the time.

As a Wellness Liaison, how has the Associate Wellness team supported you and your department's goals for wellbeing?
I am a new manager and one thing I am very passionate about is health and a person's wellbeing. When I meet 1:1 with my team members, I check in with them to see how they are handling the stress of our work. I am very open about my health journey and one day was asked what I believe has helped me the most overall, and my answer was meditation. I asked if this person would like to join me for one of Dr. Camacho's upcoming meditation sessions and he said absolutely. Then I asked if was ok for me to ask the team to join during a scheduled IT meeting and they all did. Better than that – they all loved it. We also choose a word of the year and do bimonthly check ins on it as a team to keep us on track.

Do you have any words of advice or encouragement for other associates who want to make a change to improve their health?
Start and end your day with gratitude. Speak kindly to yourself, always speak to yourself like you would your best friend. Learn to celebrate a win every day, no matter how big or how small it seems. The smallest changes in adding healthy habits can make a world of difference in your life.

MYTHS of Therapy That Are Holding You Back

There are many myths about therapy that exist. Carebridge breaks down the most common ones and presents the facts you need to know.

EXPLORE THE COMMON MYTHS

Many of us serve as caregivers, both in our work with patients and in our own families. Caregiving has profound effects on our lives and can bring stress and other emotional burdens when we lose people we care for. The burden of loss can become even heavier when we do not have the opportunity to take care of ourselves.

Healing Loss: A 3-Day Residential Workshop

This workshop provides a safe, supportive, and nurturing space for Montefiore associates to relieve stress, begin to grieve and heal our losses, and learn ways to better care for ourselves.

2024 dates: June 5–7, Oct. 16–18

Location: Stony Point Conference Center, Stony Point, NY

Meals and overnight accommodations provided. Workshop is FREE for all participants.

The workshop is limited to 20 participants and registration is required. Continuing Education (CEU) and Continuing Medical Education (CME) credits are available to physicians, nurses,
psychologists, and social workers.
